Sell Surplus Guar Gum Powder: Off-Spec, Expired, Excess, and Abandoned Inventory
Guar gum is one of the ingredients buyers ask us for most often, including material that is off-spec, past its retest date, or technical grade. If you're holding guar gum powder you can't use, whether food grade or technical grade, conforming or not, Waste Optima matches it with buyers who can.
We are a broker. We don't take title to material. We find the buyer and coordinate the deal, and the material ships from your warehouse to the buyer.
Guar gum we place with buyers
| Type | Common reasons it's surplus | Typical buyers |
|---|---|---|
| Food-grade guar gum powder (E412), conventional or organic | Overstock, reformulation, discontinued products, approaching or past best-by date | Food and beverage manufacturers, co-packers, ingredient distributors |
| Off-spec or non-conforming food grade | Viscosity, mesh, moisture, or micro results outside spec; failed customer QC | Technical and industrial users, pet food and feed applications where specs allow, reprocessors |
| Technical and industrial grade | Excess purchase, project cancellations, slowdowns in oilfield or mining activity | Oilfield service companies, mining, paper, textile, and explosives manufacturers |
| Guar derivatives (hydroxypropyl, carboxymethyl, fast-hydrating grades) | Leftover oilfield and specialty inventory, aged stock | Oilfield chemical blenders and industrial formulators |
| Abandoned or unclaimed guar gum | Import containers or warehouse stock left behind by the original owner | The same buyers as above, depending on grade and condition |

Off-spec and expired guar still has buyers
Guar gum is used in very different industries with very different specs. A lot that fails a food manufacturer's viscosity or micro spec can still meet the needs of a technical or industrial user. Material past its retest date can often be retested and sold on a current COA. What matters is accurate information: what the spec was, what the lot actually tests at, and how it has been stored.
Abandoned and unclaimed inventory
Warehouses, third-party logistics providers, and freight forwarders sometimes end up holding guar gum the original owner never claimed. If you hold title to the material, or have the legal right to sell it (for example, through a completed warehouse lien process), we can help you find a buyer. Tell us what paperwork came with the shipment and what's known about its origin and storage.
How it works
- Send the details. Grade, quantity, packaging, location, and whatever documentation you have.
- We match it. We share the lot with buyers whose requirements fit the grade and condition.
- Buyers review it. Expect requests for a COA, photos, or a sample before an offer.
- You decide. Price, pickup, and paperwork are agreed before anything ships.
What to send us
The more of this you include, the faster buyers can make an offer:
- Grade: food, technical, or oilfield; conventional or organic; any derivative type
- COA or spec sheet: viscosity, mesh size, and moisture at minimum
- Dates: manufacture, best-by, or retest date
- Quantity and packaging: number of bags or supersacks, bag weight, pallet count
- Location: city and state, or ZIP code
- Storage history: climate-controlled or not, and any damaged or opened bags
- Photos of the pallets, labels, and lot numbers
- Why it's surplus: overstock, failed spec, discontinued product, or abandoned shipment

FAQs
Can I sell off-spec or expired guar gum?
Usually, yes. Buyers for technical and industrial applications often accept guar gum that misses a food spec, and expired material can often be retested and sold on a current COA. Accurate test data and storage history make the biggest difference to what it sells for.
Who buys surplus guar gum?
Food manufacturers and ingredient distributors buy food-grade material. Oilfield service companies, mining, paper, textile, and explosives manufacturers buy technical grades. Some buyers take both, and we work with buyers in the U.S. and abroad.
What's the minimum quantity?
There's no fixed minimum, but a pallet or more is easier to place, and full truckloads attract the most buyers.
Can you sell guar gum that was abandoned in our warehouse?
If you hold title or have the legal right to sell it, such as through a completed warehouse lien process, yes. Buyers will want whatever documentation came with the shipment, plus photos and, ideally, a fresh test.
Does Waste Optima take possession of the guar gum?
No. We're a broker and never take title. The material ships directly from your location to the buyer, on terms both sides agree.
