How Buying Surplus Packaging Works

Surplus packaging is new stock that no longer fits its original plan. The usual causes are SKU and artwork changes, over-forecast production runs, and discontinued lines. It's already manufactured and palletized, so there are no converter lead times. Buyers use it alongside primary supply for spot needs, overflow, and resale.

  • Spot lots, as available. Each lot is a fixed quantity. When it's gone, it's gone.

  • Pallet minimums. Most lots sell by the pallet, typically a 1-5 pallet minimum. Full truckloads get the best pricing.

  • Quote by lot. Pick items from current inventory and request one quote, or join the buyer list to hear about new lots first.

  • Prepay or rapid terms. Terms are confirmed per lot before release. Lots ship from the seller's location.

Common Questions About Buying Surplus Packaging

Can I use surplus packaging for my own brand or private label?

Yes. Many lots are unprinted or generic, such as plain kraft boxes, natural or clear bottles, standard closures, and unprinted film. These work for private label, contract packing, resale, or internal use. If a lot carries a previous brand's artwork, we disclose it up front.

    What is the minimum order?

Most lots sell in pallet quantities, typically a 1-5 pallet minimum depending on the lot. Full truckloads (20-26 pallets) get the best pricing.

What spec data do you provide before I buy?

Each listing states the specs that matter for that category: inside dimensions (L×W×H), board grade and flute for corrugated; capacity, resin, neck finish, and closure compatibility for bottles and jars; gauge, width, and material for film; plus color, photos, and case and pallet counts. You confirm fit before you commit.

    Is surplus packaging food-contact grade?

Only when the original manufacturer's documentation supports it. If a lot was produced to FDA food-contact requirements (21 CFR 174-186), we note it on the listing and share the manufacturer's documentation on request.

Why is new packaging available as surplus?

The most common reasons are SKU and artwork changes, over-forecast production runs, and discontinued lines. The packaging is new and unused. It no longer fits the original buyer's plan.

How do payment and shipping work?

Lots are sold as available and quoted per lot. Payment is prepay or rapid terms, confirmed before release. Lots ship from the seller's location. We quote freight or you arrange your own pickup.

Can exporters and resellers buy mixed lots?

Yes. Resellers, jobbers, and exporters buy mixed and repeat lots. Tell us your packaging types, specs, and ship-to country when you join the Packaging Buyer List, and we match new lots to your profile.
