Landfill Diversion & Recycling for Steel Manufacturers

We help steel mills, mini-mills, fabricators, and service centers divert mill scale, oily chips, slag, fines, refractory, and packaging from landfill with fast pickup, compliant handling, and clear proof of results—nationwide.

How we serve steel manufacturers

We move mill scale, oily chips/borings, slag, fines, refractory, and packaging into the best compliant outlets—and document every load with diversion receipts and a simple monthly roll-up. Expect fast pickups (FTL/LTL; rail for bulk), drop trailers when needed, and controlled destruction for brand-sensitive parts. Clean, consistent streams can pay; mixed or high-moisture loads may carry a service fee.

What we handle for steel plants

  • Mill scale (loose or screened), briquetted fines

  • Steel turnings, chips, and borings (dry or coolant-laden) — wring/dry options

  • Slag (air-cooled/steel), screened aggregates; routing to compliant outlets

  • Refractory brick and ladle/torpedo relines (clean, sorted)

  • Sheet skeleton and shear/torch offcuts; prime scrap routing

  • Baghouse/collector fines (non-hazardous only), spent shot/grit

  • Pallets, crates, drums, IBCs, supersacks, film and strapping

  • Brand-sensitive or serialized parts — controlled destruction with proof

How it works

  1. Tell us the material, rough volume, and pickup location.

  2. Share photos/specs (moisture %, particle size, contamination).

  3. Get a plan + price (recycling, reuse/resale, or next-best compliant).

  4. We handle pickup (FTL/LTL; rail for high-volume lanes; drop trailers).

  5. You get proof (diversion receipts and a simple monthly roll-up).

Volumes and timing

  • Best freight economics at 20,000 lb+ (full truckload)

  • One-time or recurring pickups (daily, weekly or monthly)

  • Rush options available when schedules allow

Logistics made easy

Nationwide coverage; dock or floor-loaded • Vans, flatbeds, box trucks; drop trailers on request • Railcar options for high-volume lanes • Clear driver instructions to keep your floor moving.

Quick example

A steel mill lost their outlet for their mill scale. Waste Optima pieced together multiple new outlets to absorb most of the mill scale supply. Some outlets were one-time, some recurring. The mill realized revenue from all new outlets.

FAQs

  • Do you buy materials or charge for pickup?
Both happen. Valuable, clean streams can carry netback; mixed or hard-to-handle streams may carry a service fee.

  • Can you take oily chips and borings?
Yes. We can route wring/dry and manage moisture paperwork when required.

  • Will you handle hazardous wastes like K061?
No. We only handle non-hazardous streams. We do have haz waste disposals partners we can recommend.

  • What’s the minimum pickup?
Pilot from ~2,000 lb; best freight economics at 20,000 lb+.

  • Can you do rail?
    Yes, for consistent high-volume lanes.

  • What proof do we receive?
Diversion receipts and a monthly roll-up; certificate of destruction when applicable.
